WHAT IS
REIKI?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) derives from two Japanese words: "rei," denoting "universal," and "ki," signifying "life force energy." Beyond its spiritual aspects, Reiki has gained momentum in the medical community as a tool to promote healing on emotional, physical, and spiritual levels by directing attention to specific body areas and drawing out stored emotions.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK?
While traditionalists see Reiki as pure energy transfer, modern practitioners, including this author, view it with a more medical perspective.
The patient, in a relaxed posture, allows the Reiki practitioner to channel energy, either hands-on or hands-obove, to various body parts.
This isn't just about mystic energy. By focusing attention on specific body parts, patients can become acutely aware of stored emotions, sensations, and tensions. Many report feeling warmth or tingling, symbolizing this heightened awareness. As the session progresses, this concentrated attention can bring buried emotions to the surface, offering a chance for acknowledgment and release.
